Member Services

As the Voice of Public Schools, The Public School Boards Council oversees a number of services and benefits to member boards, via the PSBAA.

Advocacy for Public School Education

We are advocates for public school education, speaking against that which would harm public school education, and in favour of that which would improve and strengthen it.

We are advocates for the existence and proper work of public school boards.

We work to create, maintain, enlarge and strengthen constituencies of support for public school education.

We provide members with a number of services which support leadership on issues and advocacy.

Leadership on Issues

We watch and listen for emerging issues likely to have an impact on public school education. We provide early warning to members. We analyze situations to anticipate outcomes and consequences, and we share our analysis with our members.

We canvas our members about issues of concern to them, and we provide opportunities for trustees and senior administrators across the province to share information, develop positions and messages, and develop plans for advocacy and political action.

We provide help with policy development and issue management.

Leadership Development

We provide a general program of leadership development based on a three year cycle, called PSBAA University. The three year cycle begins immediately following school trustee elections and wraps up just in advance of the next election. For more information about PSBAA University, click here.

We also offer customized leadership development events for individual boards, on site. Topics include: the role and work of the board, political action in the community, gathering information for board decision-making, looking forward, strategic planning, etc.

We also offer recommendations about other resources; eg. consultants, books, electronic material helpful to leadership development.
